Industrial Boiler And Its Types

An industrial boiler is made up of an enclosed vessel, which contains water that is heated and circulated as steam, superheated steam, or as hot water for heating, producing electricity, or powering. The boiler’s furnace is the place where the air and fuel are introduced into the combust. Air mixtures or fuel is introduced into the furnace with the help of burners, where the flames can be seen. The hot gases that result through this process travel through a series of exchangers of heat, which transfers the water that flows through them. The combustion gases generated from the process are released to the atmosphere through the boiler’s exhaust section. 

Types Of Industrial Boilers

# 1. Condensing Industrial boilers
Using heat exchangers that are designed to remove energy that has escaped from the combustion gases use industrial boilers to preserve energy. The temperature of the flue gases that are produced from condensing boilers are much low when compared to the temperature of flue gases coming out of non-condensing boilers. This results in releasing the latent heat coming out of the boiler and thus increases the overall boiler efficiency. The overall efficiency of condensing industrial boilers is 95%, which is higher than the efficiency of the other types of boilers.

# 2. Cast Iron Industrial boilers
These industrial boilers are made in three different types – one-piece, vertical and horizontal-sectional. The sectional boilers are usually assembled with grommet type seals or push nipples. Some of them are assembled using screw nipples and external headers. The horizontal-sectional boilers contain sections that are stacked one over the other and assembled with the help of push nipples. The vertical sectional cast iron boilers are made up of sections that stand vertically. The one-piece boiler is made up of a single casing.

# 3. Fire Tube Industrial boilers
In fire-tube industrial boilers, the combustion gases circulate through the inside of the tubes and the water around the tubes is heated. The biggest advantages of this type of boiler are that its construction is simple and the water treatments are very less rigid. The disadvantages are that it is heavy, and more time is required to raise the overall value of the steam pressure. These disadvantages occur because of the large volume of water that is circulated in the system.

The overall efficiency of the plant can be increased with high pressure and high temperature without increasing the overall thickness of the wall. The other advantages are:
  • The overall flexibility of the design and good circulation helps prevent problems related to thermal stressing in industrial boilers. This leads to grooving.
  • It contains a thinner tubing material that allows steam to come up and rapidly and allows for rapid heat transfer attractive to prospective home owners.
  • The thing tubes inside the boilers can be bent and expanded.
  • The overall design of the boilers is very efficient because they can be used to produce superheated or saturated steam.

Disadvantages of Water Tube Boilers:


The biggest disadvantage of the industrial boilers is that they cannot be easily packed. The overall installation procedure at the site of the job is comparatively complicated and consumes a lot of time. Some of the other disadvantages are:
  • Using 30 or more burners in the power generation plant is generally avoided due to the increase in complexity.
  • The maintaining and cleaning processes are overly complicated.
  • Since there is not compromise between the designs of the tube, replacing tube designs is not possible in water tube industrial boilers.
The ability of the industrial boilers to sustain and generate high-temperature steam makes them attractive to many industries. This is particularly seen in applications that require high-pressure and dry steam.
