All you have to think about Process of Welding

Overview

If you are looking to do welding to your house, then there are certain things that you must know before you dive into this ocean. Firstly, understand the types of welding, only then you will be able to select the best from the bunch. Each welding has its own advantages and disadvantages; so, it is up to you to select the best one that suits your requirement.
# Stick welding
It is otherwise known as arc welding and is one of the most widely used welding processes. It is a traditional method which involves the use of an electrode, a clamp, welding lead and power source.

# MIG
It is one of the easiest types of welding if you want to learn welding. If you are a beginner, the experts would teach you this type of welding first. It can be further classified into wore MIG and weld thinner.

# TIG
It is the most difficult type of process to learn. TIG is the most versatile when it comes to different metals. Even though it is slow, but it produces the highest quality weld when done correctly.

# Plasma arc welding
It is very similar to TIG except that it makes use of tungsten electrode whereas TIG does not use that. Plasma arc is where high precision is required and is used in aerospace applications.

# Gas welding
It is an old-school type which uses a combination of oxygen and acetylene to provide a high-temperature flame. It is used in automotive exhaust applications and can be used to join most of the common metals used in our daily lives.

How to protect yourself during the process?

Welding is a part of steel fabrication which is used to join metals and thermoplastics. When you are involved in the process of welding, you should protect yourself from any kind of eye damage or injury.
  • The area and surroundings should be fireproof when you do welding. Keep the area free from paper and sawdust which can increase the chances of fire. Don’t keep any flammable materials near the area. Also, ensure that there is a fire extinguisher close to the area which is all ready to use.
  • Firstly, protect your eyes using a mask if you are using MIG.
  • To protect the skin from the ultraviolet light, it is essential to wear gloves and cover the body fully. Protective clothing is very important when you weld.
  • Proper ventilation in the welding area is equally important.

Ensure that the welds don’t crack

During the welding process, ensure that the welding does not crack at any time. When welding cracks, then it means the metals have to be either detached or attached, which is a waste. Unless you have proper skills or hands-on experience, you cannot finish the process without cracking. To ensure that cracking does not happen:
  • Form undersize hollow beads and welds should always be wider than deeper.
  • If you do not clean a repair, then it will crack
  • If preheating is not done properly prior to welding, then it will crack
  • Avoid low-hydrogen electrodes

Know the process

The process of welding may look very simple and easy to a common man, but it is not.  In reality, it involves a lot of skills and the professional welder should have extensive knowledge, as this is an art to master. The process involves a lot of care and safety precautions. If you want to learn or if you want to hire a welder, you must first know how it works before performing the welding process.
