Different Wooden Boxes For Various Types Of Packaging

Wood is one of the most popular natural materials which are used for versatile needs in various industries. And one of the most common uses of wood is found in making wooden boxes of various kinds, and these are used for transport packaging. As the wood material is easy to handle and work with, it is the right fit to meets the cargo dimension and transport restrictions.

These Boxes Made Of Wood Are Also Referred To As Wooden Crates Or Containers.

Wooden Boxes For Storage.

Wooden boxes are like a container made of wood and are meant for storage. Different types of woods are being used to make these containers or boxes, such as, plywood, engineered woods, lumber, and more. An additional precaution is taken to strengthen the boxes and protect the cargo inside. The boxes are often inlaid with Shrink Wrap Foil, waterproof foil, steel braces, VCI foil, and other suitable protection.

Variations Of Wooden Box Designs

Although there are many different types of wooden boxes, the most common designs are closed, open, or framed. A closed box is nearly completely enclosed while an open box uses lumber for sheathing that is gapped by at numerous distances. As not all wooden boxes are manufactured with the same materials or follow the same guidelines, these crates or containers are not built the same. When you remove the container sheathing, only the framed structure will remain, and it is termed a crate. A-frame crate contains a skeletal structure with no sheathing material for added surface protection.

Wooden Boxes For Heavy-Duty Packaging

Often there is a need to transport heavy loads or store items for a much longer period of time. In those cases, one needs to look for boxes with extra strength and higher safety. One should look for large size and more strength for carrying difficult loads. The boxes should be strong and rigid to deal with long term warehousing, and their stacking strength is sure going to be tested in these conditions.
The strength of a wooden box relies on the weight it can support. In order to add to the strength, thick bottom runners or Skids are installed on the top, ends, and sides of the box to provide access for lifting. The performance of a wooden box also relies on the specific design and type of wood and the workmanship involved. Thus, you will come across boxes with handles, hand holes, and handholds.

Different Types Of Nailed Wooden Boxes

Based on the material used and the kind of manufacturing, there are different types of nailed boxes made of wood.
  • Cleated box – The box has five or six-panel faces made of plywood, corrugated fibreboard or solid wood. The attached wood strips and wooden cleats reinforce the panels.
  • Skid box – The skid box is made of wood, corrugated fibreboard where a metal box is attached to a heavy-duty pallet.
  • Wire-bound box – Wire-bound boxes are made of very thin lumber and to the girth and wood cleats are stapled or stitched with wires. The wire-bound boxes are used for transporting heavy loose items and carry excellent tensile strength.
One important advantage which the wooden boxes provide is the element of safety. Now you can safely place your valuable cargo in safe and secure wooden boxes and ship them from one place to another. You can be sure that your stuff will arrive in good condition because of the safety and security provided by these boxes made of wood. You can even use these crates or containers for bulky duty packaging. The boxes carry a self-supporting structure and come with or without sheathing. The strength of a wooden box, as aforementioned, depends on the weight it can carry.
